INJURY CLAIM This is the case of a man who suffered injury in a road traffic accident and because of his back pain could no longer take part in sports activities.

OUR JOB We were asked by the insurance company to observe whether this man still played football for his local club. The home address in the file was out of date; he was believed to have moved recently and there was no trace of a forwarding address. That meant in turn that we did not have a natural starting point. We were however given a description of our Subject.

OUR SOLUTION We conducted Internet research on local football clubs and fixtures. It turned out there was a Saturday home match for the club. The club web site offered fixtures but no up to date team information or photographs.

SURVEILLANCE The Subject was observed: a slim man, who was referred to as ‘Tommy’ by his teammates, joined the warm up. This is a small local team in a County Down seaside village and all the players had placed their bags around the edges of the field. Our Subject had walked up to a large blue bag just after the warm up.

Our agent positioned herself at the bag with a covert body worn camera.

When the Subject walked up for a drink at half time, he was perspiring heavily in the mid morning sun. Close up footage was obtained of the football strip, of his dirty knees and of his face: a good close up shot for identification.

The claim was successfully reduced and settled out of court.
